BACKGROUND OF YAS@JALUMA
JALUMA has taken a step forward in the development of a comprehensive training program. It is a transformational phase of training and programs organized by JALUMA through the involvement of 20 public universities in Malaysia. This JALUMA transformation begins with the International Young Administrations Convention of IPTA Malaysia on June 24, 2014, as approved by the 25th JALUMA meeting held at Universiti Tun Hussien Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The training program, in the context of this convention is focused on leadership competence which is consistent with the theme, direction and orientation of each of the convention.
Until 2016, three (3) Conventions which focused on the public university administrators have been successfully organized with its distinctive direction as follows:
2014: Konvensyen Pentadbir Muda IPTA Malaysia
Theme: “Pentadbir Muda Merekayasa Masa Depan”
Date: 21-23 November 2014,
Location: Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
Participation: 154 participants.
2015: Convention For Administrator of ASEAN Universities
Theme: “Leadership and Creativity”
Date: 10-13 September 2015,
Location: Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
Participation: 108 participants
2016: Convention For Young Administrator of ASEAN Higher Education Institutions (YAS 2016)
Theme: “Striving Towards Managerial Excellence”
Date: 13-16 December 2016,
Location: Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
Participation: 214 participants
The Convention for Young Administrators of ASEAN Higher Education Institutions (YAS) will continue to be JALUMA’s training product as an annual program to ensure the development of a holistic talent that can fulfill the aspirations of higher education in the context of a glorious and dynamic leadership continuity that covers the current needs of the Transformation of Higher Education Administration.

THEME: I’M THE EXCELLENT TALENT
The unique nature of universities and the academic culture impact how administrators work, interact with individuals, consult, bring forward ideas or plans for review or approval and implement new initiatives. These are experienced by the administrators in the academic units, central services, student services and ancillary.
The theme of this conference “I’m The Excellent Talent” reflects our focus on how young administrators should equip themselves with all the good qualities and skills in leadership in order to excel in their career. Thus, it is imperative that administrators should continuously upgrade and improve their talents and personal abilities to face a more challenging and competitive educational world.
OBJECTIVES
- To strengthen the talent of administrators through the cultivation of creativity, innovation and expertise.
- To serve as a platform for the discussion and sharing of best practices and information by experts from various fields.
- To enrich the professional development of individuals engaged in the administration of universities who are capable of making paradigm shifts through innovation and glocal thinking.
- To Meet the challengers and needs of the industrial Revolution 4.0 in the context of the dynamic and advanced world of higher education governance among university administrators.
