JOHOR BAHRU, Apr. 20 – A transport ventilator machine prototype was developed by a group of academics and researchers from the Faculty of Engineering (FE) and Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIRO), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The prototype, produced with 3D-Printed Technology and Pneumatic Actuator, was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health’s Engineering Services Division (MOH) under the coordination of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dato’ Prof Ir Dr Mohammed Rafiq Bin Abdul Kadir.
Head of Special Research Grant Project in conjunction with Covid-19 Crisis, Prof. Madya Ir. No. Dr. Ahmad ‘Athif Mohd Faudzi said the specific objective of producing this cost-effective medical device was to cover the COVID-19 patient respiratory system if the infection caused by the Corona Virus reached a critical level in Malaysia. “Respiratory equipment, ventilators are one of the important medical devices to provide respiratory assistance to COVID-19 patients treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the development of this prototype model can be used to assist non-critical patients and in long term use.
