Prerequisites: Nil.

Background: This course is intended for any levels of students who want to learn more about Malaysian Architecture and Culture. Field trip to designated area in Malaysia with selected case study will be embedded in this program. This course will emphasize on real live project and meeting with well-known designers in town. Participants will be moving from one place to another in order to experience the uniqueness of Malaysian culture and its traditional and modern architecture. To facilitate further understanding of Malaysian art and craft, simple yet very interesting hands on activities will be embedded.

Objectives:

  • Recognize the cultural and architectural differences among various states and ethnic groups.
  • Identify designer’s style and approach towards design.
  • Learn Malaysians art and craft

Duration: Three (3) weeks.

Fees: USD 1,500 (include course materials, airport pick-up, accommodation, transportation, excursions, meals).

Program

Week 1

Day 1: Introduction to program, Visit to KALAM and FBE and Explore Johor night activities
Day 2: Education tours  around UTM Campus and JB town
Day 3: River cruise along Sungai Johor and site visit to Johor Lama
Day 4: Educational visit to Nusa Jaya Administrative Centre and Kukup Fishing Village
Day 5: Visit to Lata Seri Pulai . Art and Craft session.

Week 2

Day 1: Visit to Architects firm and site visit to project site
Day 2: Travel to Melaka and Visits to Art and Craft Center at Ayer Hitam
Day 3: Guided Architectural tour around Melaka
Day 4: Guided Architectural tour around Melaka
Day 5: Travel to Negeri Sembilan and Traditional sports activity

Week 3

Day 1: Visit to Architects firm and site visit to project site
Day 2: Educational visit to Putra Jaya Administrative Center and Explore KL night activities
Day 3: Guided Architectural tour around KL
Day 4: Travel to Johor and Preparation for presentation
Day 5: Group Project Presentation
