Engr. Dr. Rahmat Mohsin CEng. had joined UTM as an Assistant Lecturer A in October, 1988.  He graduated from UTM in 1988 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Hons).  In June, 1991 he acquired a Master’s Degree in Gas Engineering and Management from University of Salford, United Kingdom.  Dr. Rahmat is specialising in Thermofluid and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for Turbomachinery application in his tenure at The University of Birmingham while doing his postgraduate study.  He is directly attached to the Mechanical Engineering Department, the University of Birmingham and industrially attached to the ALSTHOM Energy Ltd., Rugby, England under the supervision of The Late Emeritus Professor F. Bakhtar and Dr. Peter Walker.  Within three years duration he had successfully managed to produce a complete package of Computational Fluid Dynamics Software for two-phase flow analysis of steam in Low Pressure Steam Turbine Meridional Analysis.  Closed-matched assessment results were obtained from comparative assessment between newly developed program and industrial steam turbine measurement traversing data leading to the award of the Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering by the University of Birmingham in 1999.

In line with the research philosophy theme of the university, he had successfully secured various government and industrial research grants (Industrial Grants, Techno-FUND, FRGS, RUG, IRPA) exceeding RM$ 14 Million for conducting multi-type of research areas including Green Sustainable Engine Using BioDDF System, Gas Pipeline System Integrity, Gas Odorisation System, Pressure Regulation, Calibration and Metering, Biomass and Biofuel System, Detonation and Deflagration of Combustible Gases.  Among them, I0 research projects were under his personal leadership while 14 projects were as active steward and participating members.  He is also securing and managed additional 8 industrial consultancy projects amounting to RM$ 887,993 which have been successfully completed.  These projects were accompanied with thoroughly vetted Final Reports.

He had been awarded with 1 Malaysia Patent MY-120439-A for Fluid Flow Meter Operating and Working Prototype in 2007 and 14 Copyrights of Integrated Modules and Manuals in 2013.  He had also managed to successfully published 6 Research Monographs, 6 Book Chapters, 15 High Impact Factors in International Journal, 29 Scopus Index Journal, 26 Referred Papers in International Conference Proceedings,  23 Papers in National Conference Proceedings, 3 Entries and 42 Entries Editing in the Encyclopaedia of Science and Technology, and 33 Technical Research and Consultancies Reports.

In recognising his vast community services, he had been appointed as the Co-Chairman of the Standards Technical Committee in Natural Gas TC 193, Lead Auditor for the SEC Engineering Audit, Lead Consultant for various consultancies project,  Malaysia Technical Representative in the International ISO Standards Committee, Geneva, Council Member of Malaysia Council of Engineering Deans (MCED), Chartered Engineers from the UK Engineering Council, Chartered Marine Engineer of the Institute of Marine Engineers, Scientists and Technologist, United Kingdom.  Dr. Rahmat is also an active member of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). At present, he is holding a position as the Director of UTM-MPRC Institute for Oil and Gas, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.   Prior to this appointment, he was the Dean for the Faculty of Petroleum and Renewable Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
