SS07:Explore Traditional Malay Food
Traditional food of any country or nation has an important role to play in showcasing its culture so do Malaysia. The variety of traditional Malaysian food is incredible. This rich historical heritage has evidently resulted in Malaysian exotic cuisine. This course offers a unique experience to various traditional Malaysian foods in Peninsular Malaysia. Participants will have a study trip to a few states in Peninsular Malaysia and explore Malaysian traditional food by themselves from the preparation until finish product. Participants will also experiencing a homestay in a traditional village or “kampung” is perhaps one of the fastest and easiest ways to get to know the real Malaysia especially the traditional food and the culture. Participants will also learn various aspects of food e.g Food Safety during lectures and guided discussions. In addition, students will also enjoy an exciting tour to the rain forest in Taman Negara.

SS08:Advanced Rock Mechanics & Engineering Geology
This course consists of 2 parts; Engineering Geology & Rock Mechanics. The content is tailored to enable students to acquire knowledge on elements of engineering geology & rock mechanics, and subsequently able to apply essential principles of engineering geology and rock mechanics in designing rock engineering structures. In engineering geology, effect of elements like rock types, discontinuities and weathering on construction are discussed. Students are also enlightened on the importance of geological environments on various construction works in rock. In the second part, students are introduced to relevant principles of rock mechanics in understanding the characteristics & behavior of geological elements. This aspect enables the students to appreciate the response of geological materials to construction induced stresses. Engineering properties of rock are discussed with focus on how they are measured and evaluated, and their significance in construction. Methods and approach used to improve various mode of instability in rock mass are also discussed, particularly in evaluating and selecting suitable method for rock mass stabilization. At the end of the course, students should acquire the knowledge and principles in engineering geology and rock mechanics, and should be able to appreciate and to apply them in basic of rock engineering structures such as slope and excavation in rock mass. Based on the inputs from the lectures, workshops and the experiential learning through the field trips, participant will have to accomplish individual and group assignments/project assigned to them as part of the assessment process. Students are also able to join field trips and geology camp

Also on integration of power systems into one network to ensure power can be supplied for longer distances at higher voltage rating. Participants are also be taught on basic of high voltage equipment insulation design to withstand electrical stress because of larger voltage operation level. Description on the requirement associated with specific insulation application and coordination of the various types of insulation to protect high voltage components from the hazards of transient over voltage which are available at the points of insulation application during the occurrence of lightning and switching surges.. Personnel who operate and maintain these systems’ components are exposed to electrical hazards especially when they are working under pressure or stress and equipment are not maintained properly. They will be provided with principle of electrical safety. So this module provides participants some insight about electrical safety and safe operation of equipment with considerable focus on ground system design and installation of ac power system substation grounding.
