EDY TONNIZAM BIN MOHAMAD started his career as a geologist and geophysicist at OYO Corporation (Japan), Singapore after graduating from University of Malaya in 1993. Then in 1995, he joined Sunway Group as a Quarry Development Manager in Sunway Holdings (Quarry) Sdn. Bhd. In year 2000, he joined UTM as a lecturer in Department of Geotechnics and Transportation, Faculty of Civil Engineering UTM.In the academics, his interest revolves Tropical Geoengineering, Excavation, Quarrying, Rock Blasting and Geoenvironment. He is a Registered Professional Geologist Malaysia (PG 81), Fellow of Institute of Quarrying, UK, Royal Fellow of Geologist Phillipines (10862), National Fellow of Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Institute (SEADPRI), a member of International Association of Engineering Geologist (IAEG) and Southern Region Representative of Geological Society of Malaysia. He is a registered Environmental Impact Assessment Consultant with Department of Environment, Malaysia since 2007 specializing in Quarrying, Mining, Geological and Blasting. His work has received widespread recognition, including his appointment as the Chairman of Expert Panel (Geology) for Dewan Bahasa Pustaka Malaysia. He has been appointed as a Panelist for devising a National Policy Paper on Great Flood. He is also appointed by Malaysia Public Work Department (JKR) to revise the National Road Work Specification (Excavation). He also provides an expertise support for Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) on establishing standardised guidelines on earthquake. In addition, at Johor State level, he has been appointed as Expert Panel on establishing Johor Sustainable Development Policy. In 2017, his Centre has been granted under Johor State Budget for establishing Johor Ground Water Pilot Project and Mineral Development Project. To date he has lead and become a researcher to 16 research projects amounting approximately to million Ringgit.He writes, consults and speaks across the world on topics such as engineering geology, geohazard and sustainable development. His work has appeared in the reputed academic journals and has published several books and more than 100 indexed journals and conference papers. He is an active case writer and invited as keynote speaker across the globe. He has been appointed as International Advisor in several International Conferences by many countries. He is also appointed as a reviewer by several International ISI and Scopus Indexed Journals.He is also appointed as a quarry consultant by several private companies. He is actively involved in various consultation projects involving private companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Phillipines and India. He is also a licenced shotfirer and has hands-on experience in quarrying industries.Furthermore, he is actively involved in community engagement works. In several disaster incidents in Malaysia he becomes the referral resource by national mass media and he has been invited in several talk programmes discussing on national disasters. He is also an in-house columnist for a Daily Newspaper. He holds several posts in the Community Committees.He received several awards and recognition for his outstanding role in the Faculty and University. Some of his achievements include UTM Excellent Award 2006, 2011 and 2014, Supervision Award, Media Award and Consultation Award. He was one of the finalist of UTM’s Teaching Award in 2013.In 2011, he was appointed as Associate Professor in UTM. In 2013 he was appointed as Head of Geoengineering and Geohazard Research Group. Later in 2014, he was appointed the Head of Department of Geotechnics and Transportation. To date, he is the Founder cum Director of Centre of Tropical Geoengineering UTM.

PROF. IR. prof-ramli-nazirDR. RAMLI BIN NAZIR is a Professor in Geotechnical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia since 1989. He currently holds a position as a Deputy Director at Centre of Tropical Geoengineering. He holds a B. Civil Eng. from UTM and PhD from the University of Liverpool specialized in Geotechnical Engineering. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, especially Foundations, Ground Improvement and Geotechnical Forensics Engineering and have wrote more than 100 technical papers and Journals related to his field of expertise. In addition as a Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering, he is also a Professional Engineer who has numerous experiences as a Design Engineer, Independent Design Checker and Geotechnical Advisor to various government and private agencies and also involved in many Civil Forensic works including Structural and Infrastructures in Malaysia. In addition to engineering education and consultation activities, he is a Member of the Technical Committee on Eurocode 7 Malaysian Annex which responsible for regulating the use of Eurocode 7 according to local needs, Member of Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Member of Malaysia Geotechnical Society, Member of Research and Development for JKR (Geotechnical) Malaysia and Member of Society of Engineering Education Malaysia. He also provides an expertise support for Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) and Public Work Department (JKR), in the design specification work for specialized work such as Soil Anchor and Load Testing. He is also an invited Geotechnical speaker for training and workshops to government and private technical agencies such as JKR, PETRONAS, SHELL, Malaysia Productivity Corporation, MARA and Institution of Engineers Malaysia.

 

PROF. dato-ibrahim-komooEMERITUS DATO’ DR. IBRAHIM KOMOO is a Principal Fellow at Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. He completed his PhD in Engineering Geology at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1979. He obtained his Bachelor in Geology from National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1976. Head of Environment and Natural Resources Cluster National Council of Professors (MPN), International Expert to the UNESCO Global Geopark, Coordinator to Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) and Vice-President of Global Geoparks Network Association (GGNA), Fellow of the Institute of Geology and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences in Malaysia. Recipient of the Langkawi Award and IUGS Science Excellence Award for Environmental Management. Formerly served as the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Founder Director of Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Institute (SEADPRI), Director of Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Head of Department of Geology (UKM), President of the Geological Society of Malaysia, Vice-President of the Institute of Geology Malaysia and Vice-President of International Association of Engineering Geology (IAEG). He is also a National Fellow for Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK). Expertise in the fields of Earth Science specialised in Engineering Geology, Conservation Geology and Sustainability Science.

 

prof-masyhurPROF. IR. DR. MASYHUR IRSYAM is Engineer Civil Engineering graduate of Institut Teknologi Bandung / ITB (1983). He earned his Master’s degree (Pasca Sarja) ITB (1984). Has embarked on training of S2 and S3 and got his MSE and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA for the Field of Civil and Environmental Engineering He began his career as Head of Soil Mechanics Laboratory Civil Engineering Department of ITB. Secretary of the Senate FTSL ITB, and until now still serves as Chairman of the Group of Engineering Expertise Geotechnical – Civil Engineering Department of ITB, Member of the Academic Senate FTSL ITB and Chairman of ITB Disaster Mitigation Research Center, Chairman of the Indonesia Earthquake Map Revision Team, Member of Advisory Team Building Construction Establishments and TC-39 Geotechnical Engineering for Coastal Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. Has written Texbook: Soil Dynamics and Foundation Engineering, published by the ITB with Andhika Sahadewa and Helmy Darjanto. He also has authored numerous journal together about “Proposed Seismic Hazard Map of Sumatra and Java Islands and Microzonation Study for Jakarta City, Indonesia; Development of Spectral Hazard Maps for Proposed Revision of Indonesia Seismic Building Code, and Seismic Hazard Maps of Indonesia and Geotechnical and Tsunami Hazard Assessment for Banda Aceh.

 

ASSOCnorhan. PROF. DR. NORHAN BIN ABD. RAHMAN is a Lecturer of Department of Hydraulics and Hydrology, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. He completed his PhD in Geo-environmental Modelling from University of Wales Swansea, United Kingdom in 1998. He obtained his MSc. in Groundwater Engineering from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 1991 and BSc. in Civil Engineering (with honours first class) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1986. He also appointed as a Research Fellow at Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK). His expertises are Water Resources Engineering, Groundwater Management, and Flood Management, Urban storm water Management, Geo-environmental Engineering, and Groundwater Modelling.

 

ASSOC. PROF. DR. AHMAahmadsafuanD SAFUAN BIN A. RASHID is a Lecturer in Department of Geotechnics and Transportation, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru, Johor. He completed his PhD at University of Sheffield, United Kingdom (UK) in 2011 and his Master of Civil Engineering (Geotechnics) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2005. He interested in physical modeling and ground improvement. More specifically, his work examines on small scale physical modelling. He also developed several equipments such as strain control system, column installation and extruder tools and flexible footing for his research. He is looking toward to expand his knowledge on 3D analysis using finite element and artificial transparent soil in the future. Currently, he is a Research Fellow at the Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK), Institute for Smart Infrastructure and Innovative Construction (ISIIC), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

 

dr-tajul-ariffinASSOC. PROF. SR. DR. TAJUL ARIFFIN BIN MUSA is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Geoinformation and Real Estate, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) since 1997. He obtained a Bachelor Degree and Master of Science from UTM, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the School of Surveying and Information System, The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. His research work is in the areas on GPS/GNSS network-based positioning and on atmospheric study. He is responsible for the development of network-based RTK system known as ISKANDARnet for teaching and research purposes. He is currently Head of the GNSS and Geodynamics (G&G) Research Group in UTM. Member of the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM), member of The International GNSS Society (IGNSS) Australia, member of International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and also a Research Fellow at the Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK), Institute for Smart Infrastructure and Innovative Construction (ISIIC),Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

 

dekan-prof-khairulPROF. DR. KHAIRUL ANUAR BIN KASSIM is a Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. He is currently the Dean for the Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM. He obtained his Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Middlesex Polytechnic, London (1986) and Master in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom (1991). He completed his PhD at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 1998. He is an active person in research where he managed to secure various research grants amounting to more than RM1Million. He has produced more than 200 papers in index and non-index journals including conference papers. Being a research oriented person, he has received several awards from national and international bodies. He is also a member of several national and international organizations and professional bodies and currently, a Research Fellow at the Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK), Institute for Smart Infrastructure and Innovative Construction (ISIIC), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

 

PROF. DR. AMIprof-aminatonNATON BINTI MARTO is a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia since 2008. She joined UTM as an Assistant Lecturer ‘A’ in 1983. She obtained her PhD (Civil Engineering) from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom in 1996, MSc. (Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering) in 1987 (awarded with the Soil Mechanics Ltd. UK. Award) from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom and a BEng. (Civil Engineering (Hons)) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur in 1983. Currently she is the Head of Soft Soil Engineering Research Group (SSRG) and also a Research Fellow at the Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK). Her main research is in the field of Soft Soil Engineering which include soil characterisation, soil improvement using waste materials and tunnelling through soft soil. Other research area includes Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, Geothermal Energy Pile and Disaster Risk Management. As a Principal Researcher, nearly RM 2 million research grants had been secured from various agencies since 1985 to undertake the research. Prof. Dr. Aminaton Marto was a Visiting Scholar at Yamaguchi University, Japan in 1998 and Pennsylvania State University, USA in 2010. To date, she has produced more than 200 publications in the forms of journal papers, conference proceedings, books and research reports.

 

PROF DR. MOHD ROSLI HAININ  is from Temerloh, Pahang. He had his primary education at Sek.Rendah Jalan Bahagia Temerloh. He then went to Sek.  Al Khairiah Temerloh, Pahang before finishing his high school at Sek. Men. (A) Wilayah Persekutuan (now SMAP Labu) in 1984. He had an Associate Degree of Science from Indiana University, KPP/USA in 1987. He obtained his B.Sc in Civil Engineering from Clemson University, USA (1990) and M.Sc in Highway Engineering from University of Kansas, USA (1996). He completed his Phd at the National Center of Asphalt Technology (NCAT), Auburn University, Alabama, USA in 2004. Dr. Rosli started his career as civil engineer with a construction company before joining Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1990. Dr. Rosli is a Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and currently is the Head of the Pavement and Transportation Research Group, UTM and Associate Fellow for GEOTROPIK. Dr. Rosli’s fields of interest are pavement materials, design, construction and rehabilitation. He is a member of Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT), USA, committee of Education Fund for Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM), and an executive committee of International Committee of Pavement Technology (ICPT). He is also the Chief Editor for Jurnal Teknologi ( Special Issue of Highway and Transportation Engineering), an ESCI WOS Scopus Indexed journal and the Editor for the regular issue. He is also the editorial board member for the International Journal of Pavement Research Technology (IJPRT). Dr Rosli was the past Chairman of the GEOCON 2013, a joint conference of International Conference of Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering (9th GEOTROPIKA) and International Conference of Construction and Building (1st ICONBUILD). He is the Chairman for the 1st International Conference on Highway and Transportation (ICHITRA 2019).  He was also the Past Head of Pavement Research Group (2010‐2012, 2015-2017) and the Head of Transportation Laboratory (2005‐2010, 1991‐ 1994). Dr. Rosli has produced 300 technical publications with H-index of 18 by Google Scholar, 14 by Scopus and 10 by WOS. Dr Rosli has supervised more than 80 post graduate students. He has involved in 35 research projects worth about RM 3 million. Some of his achievements are winning the Gold and Silver Medal in Malaysian Road Conference and Exhibition 2014, Gold Medal in International Innovation and Exhibition (ITEX) organized by Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) 2013, Bronze Award at the International Conference and Exhibition (PECIPTA 2013) and Bronze Prize at the Seoul International Invention  Fair (SIIF 2013). He was also awarded with Best Supervision Award 2012, Consultancy Award 2013 and Publication Award 2014 by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Excellent Service Award in 2004, 2008 and 2015 by the University. He was also the recipient of the Index Jounal Award in 2014 and 2017 by the university

 

 

ASSOC. PROF. SR. DR. MOHD ZULKIFLI MOHD YUNUS is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor of Surveying (Land) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1986. He completed his Master of Philosophy in Geographic Information System (GIS) at University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK in 1990 and subsequently Doctorate in GIS at the same university in 1997. He has an expertise in GIS and most of the research are in the field of GIS and Information Technology. Currently, as he is holding the post of the Deputy Dean, UTMSPACE. He also appointed as an Associate Research Fellow at Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK). He has been actively involved in various international organizations, national organizations, and professional bodies. He involved with various committees and task forces in Faculty of Civil Engineering and UTMSPACE such as a panel evaluator for MQA since 2000 and a member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM). He managed to secure plenty of research grants and projects throughout his career with the faculty. His current research title is ‘Derivation Model of Dynamic Displacement Measurement Between GPS and an Accelerometer for Bridge Monitoring’ and ‘Risk-Based Seismic Assessment for Ranau Region Using GIS’. Some of his research papers have been written and presented at conferences, locally and internationally. With the remaining time available, his focus on consultancy works has been very limited. In 2008, he involved in ‘Tsunami Modelling and Impact Studies for North-West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia’ for Drainage and Irrigation Department as a GIS Specialist/Consultant. He also a Certified CREDO Personality Profiling Practitioner and Certified RABQSA/SIRIM Lead Auditor. He also produced numerous publications including book chapters, indexed and non indexed journals, proceedings, and selected as reviewers for few prestige journals.

 

 

 
ASSOC. PROF. DR. ROSLI BINdr-rosli-bin-saad SAAD
was geophysics graduate (Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc.) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. Currently he is a geophysics lecturer and researcher attach in Geophysics Department at USM with 32 years of geophysics experience. He also appointed as a National Fellow and Head of Geophysics section for Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK). He had expertise in Electrical, Seismic, GPR, Gravity and Magnetic methods. His main research involves in engineering and environmental studies and published more than 231 journal papers. He has produced 19 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students and currently 13 students are ongoing under his supervision. He holds a total of 16 grants with principal investigator and co-researcher (national and international). He has published 5 research book chapters and 5 research books.

 

firdaus-1DR. MOHD FIRDAUS BIN MD DAN @ AZLAN is a lecturer of Department of Infrastructure and Geomatic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Batu Pahat, Johor. He completed his PhD in Civil Engineering (Geology) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2016 and his MSc of Civil Engineering (Geotechnics) from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2012. He obtained his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering (with honours first class & chancellor award), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2009 and Post-Graduate Diploma  of Civil Engineering (rector award) from Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (KUiTTHO) in 2005. Currently, he is a member of International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) National Group of Malaysia and also a Research Fellow at the Centre of Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His main research in Characterization and classification of tropically weathered rock and his expertise’s are Engineering Geology, Tropical Rock Engineering and Earth Sciences.
