Dear alumni community,

We wish you and your family well amid the growing pandemic that affects each of our daily lives. As a member of our alumni community you are top of mind along with students, faculty and staff.

We are writing to provide you with some reflections at the end of our first week of distance and online learning. For your information, UTM had decided that teaching and learning activities are to be carried out through distance and online learning effective from 1st April 2020 to 24th July 2020. The university also considers all aspects of students’ needs that involve the learning process in terms of internet access, equipment facilities and so on to ensure that all learning processes run smoothly.

The University has also established a Crisis Management Team to protect the wellbeing and safety of the University community. UTM Frontliner is also always creative in finding the best alternative in terms of student and staff welfare. To date, about RM 246,502.50 has been successfully raised through the “Tabung Khas Bantuan Covid-19 UTM” and approximately RM 73, 983.35 total in-kind donations such as food donations and daily necessities. Thanks to all the contributors especially to the alumni who worked together to support this initiative.

UTM has also taken the initiative in working with the University of Technology Delft from Netherlands and the Ministry of Environment Malaysia in research to improve scientific ways to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus that could spread through the sewerage system. In addition, UTM also offers expertise in assisting frontline personnel such as the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) and so far, 2303-unit Face Shield has been distributed.

Every day, university community are also provided with information and a Covid-19 message from the UTM Vice Chancellor. The daily sharing of the UTM Vice Chancellor has helped to convey the latest information and show his concerns to all UTM community. UTM is always concerned with the safety and welfare of all its citizens, including all alumni wherever they are. Once again, we want to thank you for standing by UTM and with our students during this challenging time. We will get through this together, with light and truth shining brightly on better days ahead.
