10 April 2014 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Corporate Affairs today launches the new facelift of the UTM website during the Vice Chancellor Monthly meeting. The new digital image was built based on the new HTML5 standard, and incorporating the latest version of WordPress web publishing software.

The new fast loading site features a high-definition mix content slider, flat design, full width that support large monitor view and also support latest smartphones and tablet.

The high-definition mix content slider will be focusing to use the best of photography to promote university research activities as well as the beauty of the campus. This wide slider is a new trend in the world university website design. Among the top universities that applies the wide slider concept as a platform for communicating their campaigns and stories are Harvard University, Loughborough University, Duke University and University of Chicago.

Flat design as user interface is also the latest trend in web design. Apple used the new concept of flat design in iOS 7 after pioneered by Microsoft with its Windows Phone and Window 8 products. Flat design make websites looks larger, clean and fresh without “eye-popping” gradients or shadows that makes items looks bulged, and bevelled. Flat Design is simply an implementation of “Minimalism”, where less is more.

Using Bootstrap framework, the new web supports multi-platform and across browsers, from smartphones to tablets to desktops. With more than 1.5 billion smartphones users worldwide including nearly 8 million smartphones users in Malaysia, any website should have support the smartphone browsers view and so do the UTM website.

The new website offers simpler navigation compared to the previous one.  Simpler navigation. New toolbar and new customized page for prospective students, students and staff plus iconic highlights for university services.

It also has special features, a toolbar that shows the current weather of the Johor Bahru campus as well as integration wtih the new UTM CRM system.
