UTM was ranked 89th place in the Web Ranking of World Institutional Repositories making it the only Malaysian University to reach the top 400 in the list as announced on January 27th, 2010.

The Web Ranking of World repositories  is conducted twice a year by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. T

he research was conducted by a quantitative analysis of the Internet and Web contents especially those related to the processes of generation and scholarly communication of scientific knowledge.

However the UTM ranking actually dropped from 48 points July last year to 41 points this year.

According to the Director of Corporate Affairs, Professor Dr. Azlan Abdul Rahman,  it is crucial for researchers and lecturers to write and deposit their latest findings and research materials consistently to support the UTM open access policy.

“Aside from enriching the contents and access of UTM Institutional Repository, the increase of the materials deposited can also enhance the rankings and ratings of UTM.  It is hoped that the top management could enforce a ‘self-deposit’ policy more intensively,” he said.
