Advanced Information Technology, Institute of (AITI)

Advanced Information Technology Institute also known as AITI is one of UTM excellent centre focusing on ICT program & activities. ICT Training & Event management is a core product at AITI along with ICT product development. Driven by management and knowledge from Faculty of Computer Science and Information System, AITI evolved rapidly to become the best ICT service provider in this region.

Advanced Membrane Technology Research, Centre for (AMTEC)

Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) is a research center for advanced membrane technology and new membrane applications. The center produces postgraduate students in addition to training engineers, scientists and technicians from Malaysia and abroad in membrane technology to enhance the nation human capital and productivity.

Advanced Photonic Science, Institute of (APSI)

Advanced Photonic Science Institute (APSI), Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the first institute for photonic science research studies in the country, was established in 2007. Since photonics is relatively new in the country, a concrete initiatives has to be in place prior to any large scale mobilization from the goverment.

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Centre for (CAIRO)

CAIRO is a combination of two main research groups in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, namely Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. The two groups have been involved in research and developments for more than seven years and have been successful in developing personnel and researchers who are competent in the related areas of artificial intelligence, control, instrumentation, robotics and automation.

Automotive Development, Centre for (ADC)

The Automotive Development Centre (ADC) was established at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to channel expertise specifically in the field of automotive engineering . This will allow Malaysia to claim a position in the fore-front of automotive technology inline with other automotive producing countries.

Built Environment in the Malay World, Centre for The Study of (KALAM)

The Centre came into being out of a wider concern for the understanding of the Malay World which stretches out to a greater part of the Asian continent and the Pacific archipelago. The Centre was set up for the sole purpose of conducting research towards a better understanding of the factors influencing the relationship between built form and the many cultures of the Malay World.

Chemical Engineering Pilot Plant (CEPP)

The first integrated installation of its kind in South East Asia, CEPP features such state-of-the-art technical support facilities as workshops, a comprehensive selection of semi-industrial scale process equipment complete with instrumentation and control set-up plus, computers facilities and resource centre manned24 -hours around the clock by a professional team of technical and management personnel.

Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Institute of (COEI)

Our Objectives are to pursue excellence in teaching, research, consultancy, services and scholarship; To offer through its departments and institutes and other facilities, an unsurpassed range of opportunities for education and training; To enhance public welfare, prosperity and culture by encouraging the process of learning and application of research findings; To secure and manage resources effectively.

Composite, Centre for (CC)

UTM Centre for Composites (PUSKOM) was established in January 1995 with the objectives to educate and promote the composites technology through teaching, training and consultation to the public. The integrity of PUSKOM activities is supported by the members from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering, University Technology Malaysia. A part from being driven in composites knowledge-based, the members of PUSKOM have also strive on pure and strategic applied research, product development project and training through smart partnership concept with strategic government agencies, local institutions and private sectors.

Electrical Energy System, Centre of (CEES)

Energy is an important and critical component in modern and global economy. Apart from being is used in industries and commercial facilities as well as for comfortable standard of life. Therefore energy supply and consumption is an important issue in national economies and quality of life.

Construction Technology & Management, Centre for (CTMC)

CTMC conducts technological research and consultancy for organisations with particular construction concerns and specialises in continuing education, courses, workshops and conferences in construction.

Environmental & Water Resource Management, Institute of (IPASA)

The Institute of Environmental & Water Resource Management (IPASA) was established in 1994 (previously known as the Intitute of Environmental a s an effort to integrate available expertise in various fields at UTM to understand and to overcome complex problems related to our environment. IPASA is an interdisciplinary center for environmental research, consultation and graduate training. IPASA also provides continuing education programs (i.e. seminars and short courses) in environmental related areas.

Ibnu Sina Fundamental Science Studies, Institute for (IIS)

Ibnu Sina Institute for Fundamental Science Studies (IIS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the first institute of its kind in the country, was established in 1997 to stand at the forefront of the university’s aspiration of being a research university by the year 2010. IIS is a vital segment that seeks to comprehend the most fundamental knowledge towards achieving our goal.

Gas Technology, Centre for (GASTEG)

Gas Technology Centre (GASTEG) is a centre of excellence under the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering, University Technology Malaysia. Being a knowledge-based centre, knowledge and experience are the keywords to GASTEG.
GASTEG is driven to promote the dissemination of knowledge and experience for the betterment of the Malaysian gas industry, in line with its vision to become a regional hub of references to gas related industries.

Geo- Spatial Science and Technology, Institute of (INSTEG)

The mission of INSTEG is to offer affordable consultation and research support services (contract/collaborative research) to community agencies. Services include research methodology, data acquisition, data analysis and deliberable ‘products & services’ in Geo-technology. Its roles is to establish a regional mechanism aimed at strengthening the capacity, within the region, to develop high-level know-how and expertise through research and consultancy in various aspects of geomatic sciences & surveying technology.

High Voltage & Hugh Current, Institute of (IVAT)

The Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia was established in 1991. It was initially a research and testing laboratory which provides facilities for carrying out experiments, research and consultancy services in high voltage engineering beginning as early as the 1970s.

Lipids Engineering Applied Research, Centre for (CLEAR)

CLEAR was established in the late 1987 to undertake research in process engineering and technology of palm oil and oleochemical processes. Research was classified into three areas; process development, product development, and infrastructural development. Apart from process engineering aspects, energy conservation and computer associations were also studied by the group.

Marine Technology, Centre for (MTC)

The construction of Marine Technology Laboratory was completed in December 1996. Situated in the main campus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Johor Bahru, the Laboratory’s capability is tailored to become the premier Marine Technology teaching research and consultancy institution in the region. Being as one of the centre of excellence to the university, Marine Technology Laboratory has significant contribution to the growth of the maritime industry in Malaysia.

Noise & Vibration, Institute of (INV)

The Institute of Noise & Vibration was established in 1990 for the study, research & development of sound and vibration. The Institute undertakes contract research, consultancy and testing services, postgraduate studies and technology dissemination of vibration, noise and acoustics. It is recognised as a referral centre by the industry and government agencies (Dept of Environment, Dept of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysian Highway Authority) for noise & vibration in the country.

Photonics Technology, Centre for (PTC)

The Photonics Technology Centre (PTC) was set up in 2006 and is under the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. PTC is actively involved in R&D and services related to photonic based telecommunication devices, system and technology. The center is committed to spearhead all research and academic activities in the field of photonics technology.

Real Estate Studies, Centre for (CRES)

Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES) focuses on areas related to the property sector. It manages activities related to research, consultancy, and knowledge advancement in the various real estate disciplines such as valuation, property and facilities management, market and feasibility studies, GIS-and-computer-based solutions, etc. In line with its purpose as a center of excellence in real estate it also include the following functions.

Steel Technology Centre (STC)

Steel Technology Centre (STC) was formed to promote the effective use of steel in the construction and manufacturing industries.It is based at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. There are a number of qualified academic staff and fellows in multi-disciplinary fields (science, mechanical and civil engineering) who teach and conduct research and consultancy activities in subjects related to steel including metallurgy, production and building structural analysis and design.

Technology Policy & International Studies, Centre for (CENTEPIS)

The Center for Technology Policy and International Studies (CENTEPIS) was established in July 1998 under its original name known as Technology Policy Research Centre (TPRC). The change is to reflect Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) aspiration of being world class university and to be more involved in international issues related to Science, Engineering and Technology (SET).

Wireless Communication, Centre for (WCC)

Wireless Communication Research Laboratory (WCRL) was established in 1989. In December 2002, WCRL is promoted to WIRELESS COMMUNICATION CENTRE (WCC) as a centre of excellence.

COE Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT)

Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT) is a centre of excellence within the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. PROSPECT specialises in aspects of planning, design and creation of sustainable and innovative process and product supply chain as well as optimal and efficient operation of process systems. More than 15 years experience in Process Systems Engineering (PSE) R & D, software product development, consultancy services and training has positioned PROSPECT as one of the leading PSE centres of excellence in the region that specializes in process and product design and development with emphasis on conservation of natural resources; in particular, materials, energy and water.
