From 10th February to 14th February 2019, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru was attended by two delegates from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST), a leading scientific and educational centre in Poland. The visit was in lieu to Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Programme (inbound). The delegates are Prof. Dr. Robert Lis and Dr. Andrzej Moczko.

10th February 2019: Prof. Robert and Dr. Andrzej were welcomed and taken into a meeting at UTM International. The meeting was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ismid Md Said, Associate Director (Global Strategy and Engagement) of UTM International and attended by the representatives of UTM International, Prof. Dr. Nordin Yahaya, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UTM International, Dr. Diana Deris, Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, Manager (Student Experience) and Ms Fasihah Mohd Jaslan, Manager (Mobility).

 

 

The meeting was a good opportunity for both Management staff of UTM and delegates from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology to introduce and share valuable information about the universities.

After the meeting, Prof. Robert and Dr Andrzej were taken to lunch at Chamek Kopitiam, accompanied by Dr. Farhana Diana, Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator and representatives from Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Dr. Shuhaimi bin Mansor, Assistant Dean (Global & External Engagement) of Faculty of Engineering and Assoc Prof. Dr. Norhazilan Md-Noor.

Later that day, the two delegates from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology were asked to join a meeting with the staff of Faculty of Engineering. The meeting also covered the engagement & welcome session by the Top Management of Faculty of Engineering, UTM Johor Bahru. The meeting was led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Shuhaimi bin Mansor, Assistant Dean (Global & External Engagement) of Faculty of Engineering. 

 

 

11th February 2019: The delegates from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology were invited to go for a city tour for the whole day. The activity was one of the wise measures taken by UTM International in building and sustaining good relationship between UTM and its global partners. The places that they went to include:

 

Kota Iskandar

Kota Iskandar is the Johor State new administrative centre consists of Bangunan Sultan Ismail – the Johor State Legislative Assembly Building, Bangunan Dato’ Jaafar Muhammad – the Chief Minister & State Secretary Complex, Dataran Mahkota Plaza and the State Departments Complex. 

Puteri Harbour

Puteri Harbour, the pearl of Johor, is a prestigious waterfront development located along the southern coast of Johor, where it is closest to neighbouring Singapore. It is a part of Iskandar new growth area of Johor.

Bukit Serene Palace

Istana Bukit Serene is the royal palace and current official residence of the Sultan of Johor, located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.  It faces the Straits of Johor and thus, has a bird’s eye view towards Singapore.

 

During the city tour, the delegates also got the chance to try out a variety of Malay foods and tropical fruits.

Later that night, Prof. Robert and Dr. Andrzej were invited to an Engagement sessions with students during UTM ACES Toastmasters Club meeting at Language Academy UTM. They were accompanied by Dr. Diana, Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator. 

 

For the third and forth days of the visit, Prof. Robert and Dr. Andrzej were scheduled to have separate programmes, in which Prof. Robert was organized to have programme with School of Electrical Engineering under Training Mobility programme while Dr. Andrzej was organized to have programme with School of Civil Engineering under Teaching Mobility programme.

 

12th February 2019: For the third day of the visit, Prof. Robert was organized to have a meeting with School of Electrical Engineering Management. He was as well given the chance to present on Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) and FEE, research, BSc/MSc program and to make a visit to the High Voltage Lab (IVAT) and UTM-PROTON Future Drive Lab, guided by the staff of School of Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Andrzej on the other hand was seek to join a meeting with School of Civil Engineering Management in the morning and was given an opportunity to host a colloquium (PGSS) on “Modern Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Methods for Technical Evaluation of Civil Engineering Structure” together with the Academic staff and Post Graduate students. Later in the evening, Dr. Andrzej was also given the chance to interact with the students in a class. He was asked to give a lecture for MKAE 1033 and SKAA 3413.

13th February 2019: For the forth day of the visit, Prof Robert was invited to have a sharing session and discussion with School of Electrical Engineering academic coordinator/staff on Erasmus+ academic mobility scheme, future educational joint project- capacity building, and strategies for international collaborations. Later that day, he was also given the chance to meet with Director of Centre of Excellent (COE), Head of Research Groups.

 

Dr. Andrzej nevertheless, was invited to have a meeting with Forensic Engineering Centre (FEC), accompanied by Assoc Prof. Dr. Norhisham Bakhary, the Director of Structure & Materials from School of Civil Engineering. 

 

14th February 2019: On the last day of the visit, the two delegates were organized to have a meeting with the Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Prof Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq bin Dato’ Abdul Kadir. The meeting was followed by the closing ceremony of the visit by Prof. Robert and Dr. Andrzej to Faculty of Engineering, UTM Johor Bahru. They were given the gifts and token of appreciation for their participation by Prof Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq bin Dato’ Abdul Kadir.

The five days visit to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru by Prof. Robert Lis and Dr. Andrzej Moczko under Erasmus+ Mobility Programme (inbound) ended on 14th of February 2019.
