Who can participate?
The competition is open to all UTM undergraduate students.
Category A: Creative Souvenir
Category B: Cafeteria
Category C: Improving Community
Rules and Regulations
(i) Each team should consist of three (3) or four (4) members.
(ii) Teams with members from different faculties, different nationalities, multidisciplinary and multiracial are very much encouraged to inculcate the spirit of borderless innovation.
(iii) A participant can only be a member of one team.
(iv) Each team is encouraged to appoint a UTM staff as advisor to the team.
(v) The product must meet any ONE of Category
(vi) The product should encourage the imagination and development of life skills.
(vii) Participants are required to provide the product description, clearly illustrated design sketches with rendering / shading / coloring as well as a simple and easily understood operating instruction.
(viii) Replication of any existing product may lead to disqualification.
(ix) All projects end result is a UTM PROPRIETARY RIGHTS.
(x) Profit-sharing ownership between UTM and finalist.
Phase One: Initial proposal
Participating teams are required to submit the entry form together with a proposal to innovate tangible products based on the selected category.
All proposals are required to be submitted to Centre for Student Innovation (UTM CSI), S01, Kolej Tuanku Canselor (KTC) before 15th April 2016.
Phase Two: Final presentation and demonstration
The selected teams will present their innovative product, summary of their write-up and presentation using a given A2-size display area, and make a formal presentation and demonstration in front of panel of judges. The presentation requires participants to include 5 Discipline of Innovation, Need-Approach-Benefit-Competition Scheme (NABC) in their Value Proposition presentation. Basically, NABC Scheme is a technique which suitable and advised to be used by all UTM products in order to approach/sell to the venture capitalists, angles, funders or even the market players. The presentation date and winner announcement is 10th May 2016.
The innovative products are judged based on the following criteria:
(a) Product Inventiveness and Originality
A simple, potentially meet the real needs of market.
(b) Educational & Functionality
Fulfilling its intended functions, reliability and provide educational elements.
The products must be attractive
(d) Cost effective
The products are economical.
(e) Presentation and Communication Skill
The products which qualify its designers to be awarded as the winner such as the quality of its prototype/model, writing, sketches and drawing presentation, etc.Main points are well supported with relevant and sufficient evidence/information. Facts are precise and explicit with clear explanations and arguments.
(f) Potential of Commercialization
Member of judges will be from UTM and external panels from the industries, etc.
Award and Prizes
Gold, silver and bronze medal will be awarded to the final innovative products according to the level of achievements.
