As the primary proponent of the “Third Epoch of Confucian Humanism”, Professor Tu Weiming has always been engaging in the interpretation of Confucian classics, and at the same time in its evaluation from the perspective of global pluralist cultural developments for the revival of Chinese cultural through creative transformation of traditions. The various topics he proposed, including “Cultural China”, “Dialogue Among Civilizations”, “Reflection on the Enlightenment Mentality”, and “Third Epoch of Confucian Humanism”, have widely and deeply influenced the international community of scholars and intellectuals. For his various contributions, Professor Tu has been honored with the 9th Lee Toyege Award for Research in 2001, the United Nation’s Award on Ecology and Religion in 2002, among numerous international awards. In 2009 Tu was honored with China’s first “Confucian Cultural Award”.
