POST-GRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECTS

ADC is currently looking for enthusiastic and passionate students to join in as research student leading to the award of Master of Engineering (Mechanical) or PHD (Mechanical Engineering). The topics of the research evolve as listed below.

Candidates will undertake research/study for a period of  not more than two and four years for Master of Engineering (Mechanical) and PHD (Mechanical Engineering) respectively. Candidate of Mech. Engineering background with study foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanic and computer aided engineering is enough to apply the position.

ADC is offering the following topic for prospective students (Master and PhD):

Title:

i) Pressurised-swirl direct-injector for small gasoline engine applications.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical.

ii) Ultrasonic principles for fuel injection in internal combustion engines.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD electronics.

iii) Piston surface lubrication system for a two-stroke stepped-piston engine design.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD electronics.

iv) New mechanism of variable compression ratio to improve performance of a conventional gasoline engines.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD electronics or PhD electrical.

v) High performance electro-mechanical pump for small gasoline direct-injection fueling system.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD Electronics or PhD mechanical.

vi) Multi-port scavenging system for a single-cylinder, two-stroke stepped-piston engine design.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical.

vii) Use of membrane material for oxygen enrichment in spark ignition engines.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD chemical.

viii) Biobutanol and its combustion characteristics in conventional combustion engine.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD chemical.

ix) Synthesizing bio-butanol from celullosic waste as alternative fuel for use in conventional spark-ignition engine.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD chemical.

x) Cabin interior temperature control system for passenger comfort.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD electronics or PhD electrical.

xi) Homogeously-charged compression-ignition (HCCI) engine fuel system using bio-butanol.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD chemical.

xii) Investigation into the Combustion Characteristics of A Controlled Auto-Ignition Two-Stroke Cycle Engine Using Hot Burned Gas.

  • Target students: PhD mechanical or PhD electronics or PhD electrical.

Title:

i) Air conditioning system of an intelligent vehicle cabin.

Objectives:

  • To design and build a new intelligent control for vehicle air condition system.
  • To analyze of the cabin temperature, evaporator and condenser temperatures, cooling capacity, compressor performance, refrigerant flow rate, humidity, system pressure, COP, and fuel consumption.
  • To compare the fuel consumption and thermal comfort of the conventional with proposed system.

ii) The implementation of fuzzy logic control on automotive air conditioning system using the electronic expansion valve (EEV) based on the microcontroller.

Objectives:

  • To develop of automotive air condition system with electronic expansion valve (EEV) and microcontroller.
  • To analyze of the cabin temperature, evaporator, and condenser temperatures, cooling capacity, compressor performance, refrigerant floe rate, humidity, system pressure, COP, and feel consumption.
  • To compare the fuel consumption and thermal comfort of the conventional with proposed system.

iii) Development of battery management system (BMS) for electrical vehicle.

Objectives:

  • To develop intelligent battery managements system controls battery charge and discharge.
  • To analyze of battery performance process.

iv) Development of a compact automotive air conditioning system for electrical vehicle.

Objectives:

  • To develop of compact automotive air conditioning system for electrical vehicle
  • To analyze of the cabin temperature, evaporator and condenser temperatures, cooling capacity, compressor performance, refrigerant flow rate, humidity, system pressure, COP, and battery performance process.

v) Computer stimulation of passenger thermal comfort levels.

Objectives:

  • To determine mathematical models of the thermal interactions among an automobile passenger, the cabin environment, and a heated/ventilated seat.
  • To analysis of the vehicle thermal comfort parameters in order to improve the measurement methods and to established the optimum thermal comfort inside the vehicle.

vi) Heat transfer analysis of in and radiator for motor bike engine cooling system.

Objectives:

  • To determine the temperature profile and heat dissipation at various engine speed, engine load and air flows.
  • To analyze of heat transfer using fin and radiator of motor bike engine cooling system.

vii) Enhancement of airflow characteristic for car cabin cooling.

viii) Performance and cooling air characterization for a small two-stroke engine.
