This course will be organized by Automotive Development Centre (ADC), Faculty of Mechanical Engineeering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in collaboration with Kedah Industrial Skills and Management Development Centre (KISMEC).
COURSE SUMMARY:
This course provides participants with techniques of major welding processes with awareness on the properties of metal and alloy used. It is also includes factors influencing the design of welding joints and the application or selection of proper electrodes to a welded joint. Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) are outlined in the training session. The practical activities are based on current practices at the industries today.
This course is aimed for those who wants to be certified welder through the AWS certification. This program will be organized by ADC, UTM in collaboration with Kedah Industrial Skills and Management Development Centre (KISMEC). The certified welder program is to expose potential welders to the procedures used in the structural steel, petroleum pipelines, sheet metal, and chemical refinery welding industries. The main emphasis of this program is to expose as much as possible to the actual scenarios of working as a professional certified welder. This course also aims for those who wants to improve on their quality of welding and to undertake quality inspection using tools of general practice, warrant by professional bodies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Participants must have at least 3 years of welding work experience or any related field

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of the AWS Welding Certification, the participants will be able to;
- Acquire the basic skills of welding all the ferrous and non ferrous metal confidently (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions) using the basic welding processes SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW
- Build skills toward industry standards
- Build skills toward international welding certifications
- Work as an effective and dependable team member as well as independently
- Demonstrate safe work habits that reflect concern and care for self, others and the environment
- Develop the skills necessary to secure employment
